When bulk bags are handled with care, it improves their longevity and safety. Custom Bulk Bags are an ideal solution for any business that needs to store or transport large volumes of product. Our bulk bags are compact and flexible when empty, but easy to store and transport when loaded.

Custom Bulk Bags are designed and tested to meet the regulatory requirements for transporting and storing hazardous and other materials. Our testing process is thorough and ensures that each bag meets international standards for safety; our bulk bags have a minimum 5:1 safety factor which means that they are capable of carrying more than five times their intended load.

Here are a few ways to ensure the safety and improve the endurance of Custom Bulk Bags:

1. Lifting the bags

Before moving the bulk bag, ensure that there is no noticeable damage to the loops or handles. Be sure that the forklifts or lifting mechanisms that will be used are rated to withstand the weight of the filled bulk bag. Use all of the provided lifting loops or handles when suspending the bulk bags. Check that all of the loops are vertical and are not twisted.

When lifting a loaded bulk bag, make sure that the forklift approaches one of the flat sides of the bag, not a corner. This will help with the alignment of the forklift and the loops – making it easier to pick up the bag in a safe manner. It will also prevent the forklift from piercing, tearing or damaging the woven material of the bulk bag.

2. Storing bulk bags

When you receive a shipment of bulk bags, create a clean, dry space for them – ideally out of direct sunlight. This will shield the bags from extreme weather, sunlight damage and other hazards that may threaten the bag’s durability and longevity.

Before lifting a bulk bag that has been sitting in storage, perform a routine examination to guarantee that it is free from any damage that could jeopardise its efficiency. Adhere to both manufacturer guidelines and industry safety requirements when storing your bulk bags.

3. Stacking filled bags

When stacking bulk bags on pallets, place them gently and make sure the pallets are larger than the base of the bag. A pyramid or supported stacking approach is a good way to ensure maximum stability. In a pyramid stack, each bag is placed squarely and is evenly distributed between four lower bags, forming a triangular shape. Supported stacking allows use of at least two retaining walls that are strong enough to accommodate stacked bags.

These guidelines will allow a company to handle its bulk bags in a safe manner. The importance of these points is to ensure that you maximise the durability of your bulk bags while protecting employees from accidents and potential harm.  Handling your bulk bags with care will also help to reduce costs by minimising damage and creating a safe environment for your products and workforce.
