Bulk bags are manufactured from woven polypropylene tapes. This is what makes them so durable, lightweight and flexible as packaging products. Some customers may wonder what the difference is between polypropylene bulk bags and polywoven bags. The truthful answer is not much, besides size and capacity.

Like bulk bags, polywoven bags are made from woven polypropylene tapes. However, these tend to be much smaller in size. A common example of polywoven bags is the packaging used for cement and fertiliser. These are commonly 25kg or 50kg, whereas bulk bags can range in load capacity between 500kg and 2000kg.

Since both packaging materials are made from woven polypropylene, they possess the same qualities; extreme flexibility, lightweight, water resistance and durability. The fabric protects the product inside for long periods of time and has a great deal of inertness to many chemical substances.

Custom Bulk Bags is a leading manufacturer and supplier of bulk bags in South Africa. We have the capacity to produce 3.5-million bags per year, all of which have a minimum safety factor rating of 5:1. This means that our bulk bags can safely hold at least five times their intended load.

Why choose polypropylene over other packaging materials?

Polypropylene is superior to many other packaging products due to its functionality and cost benefits. When it comes to storing and transporting bulk quantities of material, this plastic polymer is stronger, more protective, lighter and more resistant to substances than other options, such as cardboard or wood.

While paper and cardboard may be light, they are not as strong and certainly not as resistant to water and moisture as polypropylene. Wood is not as flexible or easy to package, and metal is far heavier than polypropylene, which adds to transport costs. Suppliers and retailers normally have to absorb these costs when they opt for other packaging materials.

Even for smaller quantities of material, a polywoven bag is a well-rounded solution. This is why many cement manufacturers, chemical producers and animal feed manufacturers choose to sell lower volumes of commodities in these bags. Polywoven packaging still offers many benefits over alternatives.

Bulk bags offer one distinct advantage over polywoven bags

As highlighted, bulk bags have the ability to hold massive capacities of material. Custom Bulk Bags range in volume from half and cubic metre to two cubic metres, whereas polywoven bags commonly have a volume of around 0.3 cubic metres. This means that bulk bags are the only option for businesses using polypropylene to store and transport large quantities of their products or waste.

Custom Bulk Bags can print custom logos and product information on the bulk bags. What’s more, we are able to spray the bags with a UV-resistant coating that extends their durability in sunlight. For more information about our bulk bags, please contact us today.
