The majority of mining bags need a fabric weight of 200 GSM (grams per square metre) or more because of the weight-to-volume ratio of PGMs. Platinum mines often opt for bulk bags with an SWL of between 1500 and 2000 kg.
A minimum safety factor of 5:1 is typical for single-trip bags, while a 6:1 ratio is strongly advised for multi-trip or long-term staging applications to make sure the bag can endure the dynamic stresses of crane and forklift movement.
Sift-proof seams are also highly recommended for FIBCs in mining applications.
